Privacy Policy

Joy of Writing is a writing programme for children aged 6 to 15. Because we work with children, we collect as little as we can, we never sell anything, and we always talk to the parent — not the child.

Who we are

Joy of Writing is run by Anuradha. For any privacy question or request, email anuradha@joyofwriting.in.

What we collect

• Child's first name and age — so feedback can be written warmly and pitched at the right level.
• Parent's email address — this is where all feedback and communication goes. We do not collect a child's email.
• The story itself — the photograph your child uploads, and the text we transcribe from it.
• Payment details — handled entirely by Razorpay. We never see or store card details.

Parental consent

Every upload requires a parent or guardian to confirm consent before the story can be sent. If a child submits without a parent's knowledge, tell us and we will delete it immediately.

Where it is stored

• Stories and feedback are stored in our private Google Drive and Google Sheets, accessible only to us.
• Uploaded photographs briefly pass through an image host so our system can process them. These temporary copies are set to delete automatically after seven days.
• Payment records are held by Razorpay under their own privacy policy.
• Writing streaks in the fun tools are stored only in your child's own browser and never sent to us.

How we use it

Only to run the programme: reading your child's writing, sending feedback, and celebrating good work.

From time to time we feature a piece of writing we especially admire on our Wall of Fame on the homepage. Pieces are chosen purely on merit — a line or an idea that made us stop and read it twice — and we show a short extract with the child's first name and age only, never a surname, school, photograph or address. We'll always let you know when your child's writing goes up. If you would prefer we never feature your child's work, just tell us and we won't — before or after, no reason needed.

What we never do

• We never sell or rent your data.
• We never show advertising to children or use their data for targeted ads.
• We never ask children for their address, phone number or school.
• We never share stories publicly without a parent's permission.

Your rights

Email us at any time to see what we hold about your child, correct it, or have it deleted. We will act on deletion requests within seven days and confirm when it is done.

How long we keep things

We keep stories and feedback while your child is part of the programme, and for up to a year afterwards so their portfolio is still there if they return. After that we delete them, and you can ask us to delete sooner.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that affects you, we will email you rather than quietly update this page.
