CHILDREN'S DAY · 13 & 14 NOVEMBER

The Children’s Day Writing Challenge

Three story tasks. Pick the one that tickles your imagination, or take on all three.

🏅 Every participant gets a digital badge, sent to the email you use.

How it works: write your story by hand on paper, up to 3 pages for each task. Then take a photo of your pages and send it through the button under the task. You need a parent's email address, and it's free. One entry for each task, for every email address. Every child who sends a story receives a digital badge by email to celebrate taking part.
TASK 1

Finish the story

Here is how a story begins. What happens next? You decide, and you write the ending.

The morning the clock tower stopped, nobody in Chhotapur noticed except Meera. Every other clock in town still said ten past nine, just as it always did. But the hands of the tower clock had moved, only slightly, and from behind its glass face came a small, steady knocking. Meera set down her school bag and began to climb the stairs…

Write a funny story that uses all five of these words. Nothing else is given. The rest is up to you.

TASK 3

A brand-new world

Your hero steps through a door and into a world no one has ever seen. Describe it through your hero's eyes: only what they see, hear, smell, touch and feel.

What is the very first thing your hero notices? What do they think when they see it? What feels strange, and what feels strangely like home?
